Forthcoming Meetings

Visit to the Getty Library at Wormsley (now FULLY BOOKED)
2.00pm, Thursday 25th April 2019

AMARC is offering its members the opportunity to visit the library at Wormsley, the private estate of the Getty family. Housed in a castellated extension to the Getty family home, the library houses the private collection of medieval and modern manuscripts, incunabula and rare printed books, and fine bindings built up by Sir Paul Getty (1932-2003). Opportunities to see the library are rare: it is not open to the public and only a few group visits each year are accommodated.

Numbers are limited to 28. Members are asked to convene at the King’s Hotel, Stokenchurch by 1.30pm, in order to travel to the library as a group. Those wishing to come earlier and dine at the hotel are welcome to do so.

Public transport options are limited. There is a regular train service to High Wycombe, from either London Marylebone, Oxford or Birmingham Snow Hill. A taxi from High Wycombe to Stokenchurch will cost around £10. However, there may be the opportunity to taxi share with other AMARC members arriving by train.

Alternatively, those who intend to drive will be asked on the online booking form to specify if they would be willing to car share, potentially obviating the need for other members to travel by public transport.

This visit is now fully booked.
